ICBG 11 - Fungal Extracts

eagle-i ID

Resource Type

  1. Natural product extracts chemical library

  1. Library Source
    ICCB-Longwood Screening Facility (HMS)
  2. Resource Description
384-well plate format. Concentration Information: Dried extracts resuspended at ~15 mg/ml in DMSO. This library was plated and added to the collection in Summer 2008. Production of this fungal extract library was funded by an International Cooperative Biodiversity Groups (ICBG) grant from the NIH to Dr. Jon Clardy. The library contains partially purified extracts from diverse organisms that grow in Costa Rica, including lichens, cyanobacteria, sponges, and endophytic fungi (fungi that live in higher plants), and that have been collected and assembled by the National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) in Costa Rica. Crude extracts from the fungi were obtained and further fractionated to eliminate nuisance compounds, especially those of high molecular weight or high polarity. Screening positives that have been confirmed by follow-up experiments on cherry picked samples can be further fractionated via a collaboration with the lab of Dr. Jon Clardy (Harvard Medical School). Please contact Caroline Shamu to arrange for purification of "hit" compounds from extract samples.
